Dear 8th Grade Parents & Students,
It
is time to put all what we learned about density and buoyancy in class
into practice! Here are some instructions and answers to frequently
asked questions:
1) The paddle does not
need to be done with cardboard. Students may bring a real paddles or
borrow them from another team. Please prearrange this if you need to
borrow the paddles. I have few paddles that can be used as well.
2) The boats can be dropped off at the pool as early as 7:30 a.m., no later than 8:00 am and the students will need to report to their homerooms to take attendance by 7:40 a.m. We will start walking down to the park at 8:15 a.m.
so that the students will have enough time to get into their costumes
and bathing suits before the race. Students must be checked out at the
front office if they need to leave home early. Please do not take them
home from the park.
3) Breakfast/brunch will be available for students at 8:30 am. Please see the signup genius below.
4) If all goes according to plan, the judging will start closer to 8:30 a.m. and the races should start shortly after 10:00 a.m. and end around 11:45 am. After the races are over it will be swim time till 1:00 pm. Please help with clean-up!
5)
The construction materials must be corrugated cardboard, duct tape,
and/or packing tape. Decorations and costumes can be anything that does
not contaminate the pool in case the boat sinks!
6) If you would like to play a theme song to go with the theme of your boat,
please bring your phone or any device that can be connected to the PA
system. Please give the music to the MC, with written instructions,
shortly before you get into the water so that he/she can play the right
song.
7) The winners will not be announced until the graduation rehearsal, during school time, on Tuesday, May 30th. Please help us keep this a surprise until then by not talking to the judges.
8) The pool will not allow any boats that
are painted with any kind of paint. Therefore, please stick to the
rules given in the instructions. Any lose items that could clog up the
filters will not be allowed.
9) This project is
part of the Science class grade. Please make sure that each student is
equally participating in this exciting project!
10) Please sign-up to volunteer:
Hopefully, this will be a fun family event for all of us. It is worth taking the day off to come and watch it on Friday, May 19, 2017!
Sincerely,
Mr. Dev.
